Dick Dolman Kenai, AK | My first job was pushing air drop supplies out the door of a Noorduyn Norseman to firefighters on the State of Washington/Canadian border fire in 1947. I can still remember the smoke and heat as we flew low to assure hitting the drop zone. I was tethered to the inside of the plane to prevent me from sliding out with the cargo when the plane was banked in a forward slip to ease the pushing effort. The flights originated from the Intercity Airport between Twisp and Winthrop, Washington. The pilot as I recall was Don Moyer who, as a 12 year old kid, I idolized. Orin Seybert Anchorage, AK | At the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum in Anchorage we have a Norseman owned by Jim Magoffin, Interior Airways in Fairbanks. It is complete and intact, we just have to recover and restore it. We need a set of landing gear shock struts for it. Any ideas on where we could buy/borrow/steal a set? We found wartime items in it, so we think it was used in France from early '45 to the end of the War. If you have any information about the use of the Norseman in France, please share it with us.
