Ban (2024)

A ban is a punishment that may be given for repeated or serious violation of the Rules of RuneScape. Bans are issued only by Jagex Moderators. A division of Jagex known as Customer Support handles all bans and blocks.

The status of an account can be checked via the Account Status system. An account is in the green zone if it has no offences, though this changes through orange and red as offences accumulate. Bans may be temporary (for example for 24 hours) or permanent. Banned players are unable to log into the game at all.

Game bans[edit | edit source]

Game bans restrict players from access to their accounts, usually for violating one of the Rules of RuneScape. If the player appeals their ban, it may be accepted, either restoring the account completely or with a permanent mute. A ban can also get quashed by a Jagex Moderator.

Permanent bans are generally given for severe infractions of game rules, most notably major bug abuse, botting, and real world trading. Permanently banned or muted players may appeal mutes and some types of bans. Jagex moderators will check the accuracy of the ban and whether the offence resulted from the activity of a hijacker. Ban appeals are a "last chance" appeal, and if denied, Jagex will not look at it again, nor will they respond to further ban appeals for that account.

Jagex account ban[edit | edit source]

Players that have a Jagex Account and have linked multiple character accounts to their Jagex Launcher can receive bans and mutes for individual character accounts, but will not be sanctioned at the level of their Jagex Account in almost all circ*mstances.[1] That said, a ban can be issued at the level of the Jagex Account in the following rare cases:

  • If the Jagex Account belongs to a hijacker, and is used to store hijacked character accounts.
  • If the owner of the Jagex Account is believed to be under 13 years of age.
  • In case there is evidence the owner of the Jagex Account poses a real-life threat to another person.

Historical[edit | edit source]

In RuneScape Classic, there was an area called The Black Hole (in the Dwarven Mine) where banned players were sent for an indefinite amount of time. However, this was later removed. Players could exit The Black Hole by using a disk of returning.
