What is keep it wet? ›

Keep It Wet is a multipurpose additive formulated by our ink mixing team. It is CLEAR and will not alter the hue of the ink. As the name implies, now you can keep your cap of ink wet as you tattoo. Add a drop or two of Keep It Wet into your ink cap to prevent the ink from drying from evaporation.

It's also vital to store your tattoo ink in a place that's out of direct sunlight. Prolonged contact with the sun's rays heats up your ink and causes the water within it to evaporate. This makes your products likely to dry out, ruining them and forcing you to spend your hard-earned money on more.

Why Vaseline and petroleum-based jelly aren't great for a new tattoo. Petroleum-based products can cause ink to fade and may trap moisture and bacteria on top of the tattoo, increasing your risk of developing an infection. Use water-based moisturizers on new tattoos instead.

To aid the skin healing process, the tattoo needs to be kept moist. You can use a very thin layer of hypoallergenic ointment or fragrance-free lotion like Vaseline® Intensive Care™ Advanced Repair Unscented Lotion, or Vaseline® Healing Jelly Original.

Single Bottles: Individual bottles of tattoo ink, usually between 0.5 and 4 ounces, can range from about $5 to $30. The price depends on the brand, the size of the bottle, and the specific color (some specialty colors may cost more).

If your skin dries out, your tattoo will dry out too. Use lotion on your tattoo. Make sure that you apply a thin layer, as your tattoo artist should have instructed. For best results, make sure to apply the lotion after your skin is completely dried after showering with warm water, not hot.

Apply Aquaphor ointment or a specialty tattoo-healing product to the tattoo as needed, massaging a very small amount into the skin to keep the tattoo slightly moist, but NOT smothered. Use just enough ointment to make the tattoo slightly shiny, and blot off any excess.

If you leave the cartridges open, the ink inside will dry up. It's just like if you keep a water bottle open for too long, it will dry out eventually. So the best way to approach this is to keep the cartridges sealed and only open them when you need to use them.
