Jesus is explaining that God has more important uses for our energy than worrying. We have no good reason to panic about starvation, nakedness, or even death. In Luke 12:24, He reminds a crowd that ravens neither work nor store food in barns, but God feeds them regardless.

Believers should honor God more than they fear death, or than they worry about things like food and clothes. Christians are to remain ready for Christ's return, even as faith separates those who believe from those who do not.

Even to the very poor, Jesus says not to worry about food or clothes. God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies beautifully, and His children are far more valuable than birds. Anxious emotions can't add even an hour to a person's life. Instead, Jesus tells His followers to trust God to provide what they truly need.

Symbolic Satisfaction of Needs

The "lilies of the field" grow without human help and are tended by God alone. The verse calls on believers to give all their needs to a higher power and worry about nothing, a symbolic call to surrender to benevolence.

The presence of wildflowers in the open fields is tangible evidence of God's provision of life and beauty. Jesus wants you to consider wildflowers because he wants you to be captivated by his love and provision for you.

There is not reason to fear threats from men because God protects the souls of the faithful. There is no need to fear neediness because God ensures the care of the faithful. Anyone who puts their trust in Jesus (“acknowledges” Him), Jesus will acknowledge before God. Anyone who denies Jesus, Jesus will deny before God.

This is Jesus' summary statement of the previous verses. God provides food for the ravens; He can provide for His followers. Worry is useless. His point is not that Christians ought not work or make any effort to procure food.

The lesson to His followers was very clear: “Always pray and never give up.” Prayer is not a means of coercing God to do what we want. It is a process of recognizing His power and plan for our lives. In prayer we yield our lives and circ*mstances to the Lord and trust Him to act in His time and in His way.
