The Happy Pear began in 2004. Identical twins, Dave and Steve, had a dream of making the world a healthier and happier place and building community. They started by opening a humble fruit and veg shop in their hometown in Greystones, Co Wicklow, Ireland.

David was married to his partner Jan but has been separated for six years and together they have two daughters, Elsie (10) and Izzie (7). Today he's with a new partner, Sabrina. Stephen is married to child psychologist Justyna and together they have three kids, May (10), Theo (7), and Ned (4).

Eighteen years later we have two cafés, a shop and a bakery in Greystones, Co Wicklow. It all began with our shop and today it's still packed full of wonderful organic fruit and veg; healthy snacks, supplements and wholefood produce.

The company describes itself as “a plant-based cooking and lifestyle” franchise that provides recipes and tips “for all aspects of a healthy life”. The latest controversy comes a year after the Happy Pear apologised over incorrect claims that eating mushrooms could help reduce the risk of breast cancer.

This leads to an equity value of €10.7 million. This is the average of the four different valuation outcomes measured at 01/01/2023. Once The Happy Pear successfully concludes its funding round, an opportunity for international expansion becomes feasible.

As identical twins they played plenty of tricks: sharing teenage jobs and one on occasion trying to nick the other's girlfriend! Voyages of self discovery taken in their 20s led the boys to give up alcohol, meat and begin a movement back in Ireland together.

Dave & Steve had been travelling the world and as twin power goes, on opposite sides of the world they switched to a plant based diet within a week of each other.

We swim in the sea at The Cove in Greystones almost every day and in the early hours this morning the sky was blue, the sea was really calm – there was no wind or storm brewing in Greystones at this early hour – so we got in for our daily brief swim.
