Dye small, delicate or unusual items by hand with a bucket, sink, or bathtub.Do not use fabricdye inporcelainor fiberglass bathtubs due to the strong possibility of staining.

Use the right amount of product for your fabric type and weight.

Bucket/Sink/Bathtub Fabric Dyeing Method (1)

  1. Prepare fabric. Wash material (avoid fabric softener) and leave damp.

  2. Wear rubber gloves to prevent dye from staining your skin; if needed, protect work area with plastic.

  3. Fill a suitable vessel (ex: bucket/sink/bathtub) with enough hot water so your material will be completely submerged under the water. Do not place your material into the water yet.

  4. Mix dye solution. Usethe required amount of Tintex fabric dye for your fabrictype &weight. Add dye powder to 2 cups (500ml) of hot water, stirring gently untilcompletelydissolved.

  5. Add the now liquid dye solution to the previously poured hot water and mix carefully. If the solution has not been evenly mixed before your fabric is added the results could be blotchy.

  6. Add fabric. Carefully stir and move the material around in the water for a minimum of 30 minutes. Darker or brighter colours can stay in dye bath for up to 60 minutes (adjust dyeing times as needed). Dye colour always looks darker while wet.

  7. Remove fabric. Gently squeeze the excess dye out. Do not wring fabric.

  8. Rinse material with cool clean water. Thoroughly remove all excess dye until the water runsclear.

  9. Clean your workstation using soap and/or bleach with warm water as soon as possible after dyeing.

  10. Wash fabric in warm water with laundry detergent, alone or with similar colours; you may iron on a low setting when slightly damp if needed.
