Fox 25 Morning News getting makeunder (2024)

The departure of VB, aka Doug Goudie, wasn’t the only change coming to “Fox 25 Morning News.”

The station’s new owners have decreed that there will be no more in-studio interviews and, in fact, the only topics under discussion during the newscasts will be breaking news, weather, sports, consumer or business stories.

Which means that the morning show, which was designed to be a local version of the popular “Today” show and “Good Morning America” formats, will now become just another in the loooong line of daytime news programs.

You may recall that last week, the new Cox Media Group bosses, who took control of the local station in a trade with Fox, sent VB packing after determining they weren’t all that into his humorous, sarcastic and oft-outraged commentaries.

VB’s departure also signaled the death knell for the morning show’s “Heavy Hitters” segment, in which Goudie, PR guru Cosmo Macero and commentator Peter Kadzis would chew the fat — mostly about politics. Their last appearance was on Election Day.

“A quiet ending but it was a lot of fun,” Macero said.

Among the more memorable “Heavy Hitters” segments were the time the boys got sprayed with fire hoses in Dorchester, rode skateboards and BMX bikes at a skate park in Marshfield, and when they set fire to a picture of Sammy Hagar on the street, then were scolded and made to clean up the mess.

We also hear that a couple of producers and bookers for the morning show will be departing over the next few weeks since their services are no longer ?required.

Do stay tuned …
