Rit dye has only come off for me with abrasive wear. No solvent that I've tried including electric parts cleaner has taken it off. Your best bet after dying is to rinse the knife several times in hot water and cold water because it usually will bleed for a few days. After that it's pretty permanent.

The first 10 minutes are the most critical. Stirring helps to ensure an even color with no splotches. Item can remain in dyebath from 10 minutes up to one hour with stirring. If dyeing a polyester cotton blend, keep the fabric in the dyebath for at least 30 minutes to ensure that the color takes fully.

Bleach actually damages fabric, making it very difficult to dye. If you still want to try and dye the garment, you could try using Rit Color Remover on the garment before dyeing. However, unfortunately we cannot guarantee this will work.

Dylon Dye. Dylon permanent dye is a fiber reactive dye, meaning it reacts chemically with cellulose found in cotton, rayon and silk to create a permanent bond. It won't fade and the colors will be more intense than rit dye. It doesn't need heat to activate.
